Portland Gateview Elementary Administration
Dr. Karen Jarratt, Principal
Dr. Karen Jarratt is a life-long educator and a graduate of Sumner County Schools. She started her career as a special education resource teacher, and then transitioned into an elementary teacher, middle school math coach, lead educator, assistant principal at Station Camp Elementary and is currently the principal at Portland Gateview Elementary.
Dr. Jarratt earned an A.S. from Volunteer State Community College, B.S. from East Tennessee State University, M. Ed. from Vanderbilt University, and a Doctorate from Union University. She has also completed the Sumner County Leadership Academy through Union University and the Instructional Coaching program through Lipscomb University. Dr. Jarratt has served as a Leadership Coach and Math Coach for the Tennessee Department of Education. She loves spending her free time with her children and grandchildren, swimming, reading, and traveling. She is very excited to be part of the Portland Community!
Mrs. Shelena Butt, Assistant Principal
My name is Shelena Claypool Butt, Ms. B, and it is my sincere honor to be your Assistant Principal at Portland Gateview Elementary. I am excited to be a part of an amazing team of teachers, students and families. It is a pleasure to serve our learning community and contribute to a successful school year in every way I can.
At PGE, our students are prepared to thrive as they explore real-world problems and engage in meaningful learning. The staff and administrative team hold the highest standards for all students, while providing a safe and loving environment. High expectations for responsibility, respect, and integrity create a positive atmosphere that promotes student growth academically and socially.
I look forward to collaborating with our dedicated staff, families, and administrative team to help provide the best educational experience for our students. I am blessed to be a part of the PGE family.
Mrs. Kimberly Smallwood, Lead Educator
Mrs. Smallwood began her career as a classroom teacher at Portland Gateview Elementary. After seven years as a teacher and teacher leader, she transitioned to a Lead Educator for Sumner County Schools. For the last three years, she has served as a Lead Educator for Madison Creek Elementary and Millersville Elementary. For fun, she loves to spend time with her family, read books, and cheer for the Nashville Predators.
Mrs. Smallwood received her Bachelor of Science degree from Middle Tennessee State University and a Master of Education degree from Lipscomb University. She is a lifelong learner and continually aspires to learn new things to share with our teachers. She has completed the Instructional Coaching Program at Lipscomb University and the Sumner County Leadership Academy at Union University. Mrs. Smallwood is excited to return to Portland Gateview Elementary and is extremely excited to be a part of the Portland Gateview community.
