 Dr. Karen Jarratt, Principal

Dr. Karen Jarratt Fall 2019

Dr. Karen Jarratt is a life-long educator and a graduate of Sumner County Schools. She started her career as a special education resource teacher, and then transitioned into an elementary teacher, middle school math coach, lead educator, assistant principal at Station Camp Elementary and is currently the principal at Portland Gateview Elementary.  

Dr. Jarratt earned an A.S. from Volunteer State Community College, B.S. from East Tennessee State University, M. Ed. from Vanderbilt University, and a Doctorate from Union University.  She has also completed the Sumner County Leadership Academy through Union University and the Instructional Coaching program through Lipscomb University. Dr. Jarratt has served as a Leadership Coach and Math Coach for the Tennessee Department of Education. She loves spending her free time with her children and grandchildren, swimming, reading, and traveling. She is very excited to be part of the Portland Community!


  Mrs. Kimberly Smallwood, Assistant Principal

Mrs. Smallwood is honored to be the Assistant Principal at Portland Gateview Elementary. She began her career as a classroom teacher and teacher leader at Portland Gateview Elementary before becoming a Lead Educator for Sumner County Schools. As a Lead Educator, she impacted the growth of Madison Creek Elementary, Millersville Elementary, and Portland Gateview Elementary. 

Mrs. Smallwood received her Bachelor of Science degree from Middle Tennessee State University, Master of Education degree from Lipscomb University, and an Educational Specialist degree from Lipscomb University. She is a lifelong learner and continually aspires to learn new things to share with our teachers to support the growth of our students. She has completed the Instructional Coaching Program at Lipscomb University, the Sumner County Leadership Academy at Union University, and the Sumner County Leaders Academy for Sumner County Schools. Mrs. Smallwood is excited be a part of Portland Gateview Elementary and the Portland community. She is committed to collaborating and partnering with educators, students, families, and the community to support the growth of our students.


  Mrs. Sherri Holmes, Lead Educator

After beginning her career in the corporate world, Mrs. Holmes felt a calling to become an educator.  She began her education career teaching 6th grade Reading/ELA for Portland Middle School and Portland West Middle School.  She has worked as a Lead Educator at Ellis Middle School for the past three years, allowing her the opportunity to collaborate with high-quality teachers while supporting student and school academic goals.  Mrs. Holmes is excited to join the PGE Family as Lead Educator.

 

Mrs. Holmes earned a Bachelor of Business Administration from Middle Tennessee State University, a Bachelor of Science from Western Kentucky University, and a Master of Education from Union University.  She has also completed a Sumner County Leadership Academy through Union University, an Instructional Coaching Program through David Lipscomb University, and is currently enrolled in the Sumner County Instructional Leadership Academy.  Mrs. Holmes has lived in the Portland community for the past 25 years and is honored to join the PGE Family and be a part of this school community!
